House Military Umberto I In 1897 formed a committee, chaired by the famous Milanese Amato Amati, Giacinto Bruzzesi and Joseph Candiani (called the A BC Turate), with the concurrence of the Savings Bank of the Province of Lombardy, to raise funds in order to purchase from the heirs Zerbi in Saronno, the eighteenth-century villa Ala Ponzone, located in Turate (Co), later converted into a nursing home for veterans of all battles and wars fought in the name of Italy. The purchase agreement was signed October 10, 1897. On 18 January the following year King Umberto I allow that the House is named after him. With Royal Decree no.187 of 23 June 1898 the House Military consists of a charitable foundation and it is approved the Statute. Can access the house all those who had crossed the age of 60 (after 65), have participated in at least one war campaign of the Italian state (the Risorgimento campaigns, all the way down to the Second World War) and are able to demonstrate to be destitute and living in a difficult situation. The first three veterans admitted in the Institute entered March 6, 1899 and were painted by Achille Beltrame on the cover of an issue of Domenica del Corriere.
